Connected? or ‘It's not always what it looks like at first glance’.

In an exhibition (Zeitfenster, Blaumeier Atelier) I discovered the two pictures that I have placed next to each other here. They triggered a dialogue in me that went something like this:

‘How isolated and alone these two are. And they're just looking at their mobile phones.’

‘Yes, but could you see it another way? How about if I imagine that the two of them are communicating with each other?’

This question inspired me. The mood changed. More and more ideas came to me about what might be going on between them. An emotional exchange or a conversation between two lovers, an exchange of music or a conversation between friends, about friends or about something interesting. A date? Friends involved?

If we could visualise all the invisible connections and networks, we would probably see how the two people and all of us are directly and indirectly connected. Not every connection has the quality we are looking for. Some nourish us, others drain us of energy or are devoid of emotion.

I have clearly noticed how different my feelings are depending on the impact the images have on me. But above all, how and what I want to see in them and what meaning I consciously give them.

This meaning or interpretation is my very own choice. And I have the choice of what and how I want to think and feel accordingly.

With these two pictures, I favour the connections you see here.

And you, what do you see?
